Business progress is also a question of signing up to international standardisation processes

Safety and sustainability have always been fundamentally important values for Navigazione Laghi, with over 60 years of commitment to respect for passengers, staff and the environments in which the fleet provides its services.
While pursuing its shared goals, over time Navigazione’s management has worked on independent organisational models founded on consolidated skills, operational procedures honed by expertise and a know-how baggage built over time.

It is a solid and effective system which has taken a further organisational step under Marrapodi’s guidance, designed to structure processes further and promote ongoing service improvement.
The adoption of a safety management system has enabled the company to set a thoroughgoing existing process analysis and mapping in motion – written procedures and best practices developed on the basis of years of sector expertise – with a view to standardising these and integrating them into a shared system. The process culminated in audits and checks carried out by a qualified and independent third-party body, RINa, and the achievement of two of the most important international company efficiency certifications.

n particular, the UNI ISO 45001 sets out the requisites for Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) management systems with a view to safeguarding employees’ physical and mental wellbeing, preventing occupational accidents and diseases by managing and reducing operational risks, fostering occupational wellbeing via active participation and company performance improvements. The UNI EN 14001 standards set down the requisites for environmental management systems, recognising the body’s commitment to responsibly managing the environmental aspects of what it does, measuring its environmental impact and optimising energy resource use.

In addition to the two certifications above, the body has also achieved UNI EN 13816:2002 certificate recognition in 2026, for its services as a whole and relating to European standards, setting out criteria and indicators with which to measure and improve the quality of the public transport services provided. Certification constitutes recognition of a process which goes well beyond the formal paperwork involved. It is the outcome of organisational change built from within, with staff participation and by fostering skills already present. It is a participatory process which confirms that safety, sustainability and public transport service quality are elements in a shared organisational culture and not just management objectives.

The ISO 45001 and 14001 certification process took nearly three years. It is Navigazione Laghi’s intention to continue in this direction with a view to retaining the certifications obtained over time by means of periodic surveillance audits, fresh analyses and, potentially, corrective action and process improvements, thereby generating solid foundations for the construction of an increasingly efficient, transparent and future-oriented management model.
