Joint coast guard, finance police and Navigazione Laghi drills testing operational efficacy on Lake Garda, simulating rescue scenarios with a view to speeding up the emergency response
After a positive experience last April on Lake Como and in conjunction with the finance police’s Roan, the coast guard’s operational lake division replicated these drills on Lake Garda too, with a view to testing and consolidating operational co-ordination procedures between local bodies and organisations working in policing the lake and in its rescue services.
Coast guard corvette captain Massimiliano Quinto highlighted the strategic value of this initiative: “Our aim was to replicate our joint training drills on Lake Garda, too, and adapt it to the features of this area. Knowing about and sharing procedures is indispensable, but the capacity of the various bodies to work in a co-ordinated, rapid and effective way can only be tested on the field. These drills were an opportunity for teams to measure up to complex and potentially realistic scenarios. Navigazione Laghi’s willingness to get involved enabled us to test not only the readiness of the individual operators but also, and above all, the ability of the system as a whole to act in an integrated way.”
conclusions were similar: “The drills were a response to the need to offer citizens an efficient and effective service. We believe that achieving high action standards requires all forces to act in a synergic way, in accordance with their respective duties. As finance police we took part in the security scenario in the context of which we tested the operational procedures and methods required to get rapidly to a Gestione Governativa Navigazione Laghi boat in order to stop a passenger acting in a hostile manner.”
