On 11 May, in Lecco, hybrid motorboat Olimpia’s ribbon was cut by Matteo Salvini, Vice-President of the Council and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, in the presence of Undersecretary of State Alessandro Morelli and representatives of the regional and local institutions. Olimpia is the twin of motorboat Ambrosiana, which was completed last September. This new hybrid boat will take to the waters this summer, further reinforcing Ente Governativo’s transport capacity and taking its total fleet to 101 boats. ‘Lake transport is a strategic asset and, via Gestione Governativa, Minister Salvini is doing his utmost to make the lake a full blown highway and a valid alternative to road transport between the various towns,’ said Gestore Governativo Pietro Marrapodi. ‘In 2026 alone tenders worth 23 million euros are planned for the refitting and refurbishing of the fleet and renovation work on the Dervio shipyard will also be starting before the end of the year. All this is in line with the timeframe set out in the Ente’s 2024-2029 industrial plan (with 2034 forecasts) which, in addition to fleet/infrastructure refurbishment and digitisation investments worth over 117 million euros, will also have a positive impact on the local economy and employment rates.’
‘I would like to thank the thousands of people who took part in the boat-naming poll,’ commented Undersecretary of State Alessandro Morelli. ‘Olimpia testifies to all the hard work and commitment undertaken by the ministry and Navilaghi in a period in which they were working flat out for the Olympics, a period in which all the body’s staff were doing their utmost to raise awareness of the beauties of the lake with tourists in Lombardy for the games.’ The name chosen is not solely a symbolic one either. It is tangible testimony to all the hard work done by the institutions, at a time of maximum workload bound up with the Olympics. Morelli underlined that the efficiency of lake transport enabled the area’s landscape assets to be promoted to a global audience.
This new hybrid boat thus confirms the institutional commitment to investing in modern and sustainable transport capable of ensuring high technological standards and respect for the environment.
