Lecco and Lake Como look to the future: the Olimpia motorboat is here
One image sums up the meaning of our work more than any other: an Italian flag ribbon stretching and then breaking to set a new journey in motion. The Olimpia motorboat’s inaugural event was much more than simply a formal act. It set the seal on a commitment taken with the local area, its people and the thousands of tourists who choose our splendid Lake Como for their holidays.
Olimpia’s arrival on this branch of Lake Como is a historic day. It is the first time a boat of this capacity has been launched in Lecco, testifying to the scale of the institutional network’s belief in the potential of an area which merits infrastructure and services on a par with its beauty.
Olimpia is not just a boat. It is a symbol of innovation at the service of the environment. Its hybrid propulsion means it is capable of sailing in full-electric mode, ensuring zero emissions and noise. It is concrete proof that environmental transition has to be made up of real investment which improves the quality of life of local people and visitors, reducing road traffic and promoting water transport as a valid, enjoyable alternative.
Its success is the outcome of a clear political vision and ongoing local governance. In this sense the presence at the inauguration of Matteo Salvini, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, was not simply a sign of institutional involvement but was also confirmation of the top attention level paid by the government to the region’s needs.
I would like to personally thank Minister Salvini for his unflagging work over the years for Lombardy and the country as a whole, his pragmatism and determination. His ability to overcome building site hurdles, invest in modern transport and believe in the relaunching of Italian infrastructure is the driving force which gets projects like the Olimpia motorboat off the ground.
Seeing Olimpia take to the Lecco waters makes me very proud. We have worked very hard to respond concretely to the need for top level public services. This investment fits into a national strategy which sees the lake system as a strategic resource for the economy and tourism.
A new gem is shining in Lake Como’s waters today. It is a victory for the local area and for those who believe that Italy’s future is a matter of modern, safe, avant-garde infrastructure. Happy sailing to all on board motorboat Olimpia.
