We often take the most important things in our lives for granted and realise how important they are only when we lose them.

Think of our health and the importance of the right habits and of prevention, essentially of behaving responsibly, aware of the immense value of what we are looking after.

The same can be said of safety in the transport sector, a sector which affects millions of people and thousands of staff and is essentially an everyday fact of life.

However we travel, safety is first and foremost a matter of individual workplaces and made up of a range of factors such as company structure, respect for the rules, know-how, training, oversight, ongoing improvement and, to an even greater extent, responsibility.

Responsibility is a cultural matter and thus, promoting a culture of safety has always been a priority for us.

In recent years GGNL (Gestione Governativa Navigazione Laghi) has strengthened processes relating directly or indirectly to safety governance, both workplace and environmental safety and also, obviously, business safety. We have set up specific structures, had ourselves ‘X-rayed’ by accredited third parties, set in-house monitoring in motion and activated a virtuous circle involving ongoing process improvements.

In a nutshell, we don’t want to lower our guard and, to ensure we have new improvement horizons in our sights at all times, we never shut ourselves up in our own world but like to be inspired, especially by synergies with other transport systems.

This is one of the reasons for the articles by the rail and road safety infrastructures we have hosted here, which give you an idea of how road safety management also impacts on our lakes.
