The third edition of this Università Cattolica event explores luxury tourism, health and wellness, making the boat a floating classroom together with Navigazione Lago di Garda
Great attendance and excellent results for the third edition of the OTG Summer School – Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, which focused this year on the luxury tourism theme as regards health, wellness and beauty. Twenty or so participants sharing an interest in new sector trends and Garda area’s excellences from a range of Italian regions took part. One of the most popular elements in the programme was an on-board lesson organised with Navigazione Lago di Garda, which gave those taking part a special lake observation vantage point, making the boat a full-blown floating classroom. Themes bound up with the history of tourism were the focus, including evolutions in the Garda landscape and the role played by navigation in the lake’s identity building and tourism appeal. The Summer School was organised with the support of Comunità del Garda and its main local partners (including Terme e Grandi alberghi di Sirmione and Bcc del Garda), reminding all concerned of the value of field experience and the importance of dialogue between universities, institutions and tourist sector operators. Not only did participants acquire new skills but they were also left with memories of Garda lived and narrated directly on its waters. Credit for the initiative goes to OTG (Osservatorio per il Turismo sul Lago di Garda sponsored by Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore), a research, training and academic world-local area dialogue centre set up in 2022.
