Blood oranges were the centre-stage players at this 19th edition of the traditional festival, an occasion on which local people also threw open the doors to their homes to visitors
At this halfway point between the Carnival period and the beginning of spring, Cannero Riviera is transformed with an explosion of colours and fragrances. From 28 February to 8 March this picturesque town on the Piedmont side of Lake Maggiore hosted its annual Festa degli Agrumi citrus festival, now on its 19th year. It was an edition which focused entirely on blood oranges and the main exhibition spotlight was also on this type of orange, of the many varieties on show. It is just one of the many varieties visible in private gardens, in the themed exhibition set up in the church hall, photographic exhibitions, work by the students of the Ferrini Franzosini art high school and the Orange 5.0 landscape installation.

Expressions of femininity
With its dozens of citrus trees grown in Cannero, the main exhibition focused on red as a natural colour and a “symbol of femininity”: energy, maturity, protection and inwardness.
