Discovering a land of unique views and remarkable nature, featuring canyons, legendary roads, and panoramic lookouts for the truly “brave”

Recognised as one of Italy’s Most Beautiful Villages thanks to its panoramic position, charming narrow streets, and wealth of natural scenery, Tremosine sul Garda is a must-see destination in the province of Brescia. Located on the western side of Lake Garda, within the Alto Garda Bresciano Natural Park, the municipality consists of several hamlets scattered across a plateau that rises high above the lake, offering spectacular views and a peaceful atmosphere surrounded by nature.

A historic lane in Pieve di Tremosine

One of its most striking features is the Strada della Forra, a narrow, winding road carved into the rock that climbs in a dramatic gorge to reach the hamlet of Pieve. This scenic route is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful in the world. The Brasa river runs through the gorge and over time it has carved out a deep canyon, visible as you travel along the road. The Strada della Forra was described by Winston Churchill as “the eighth wonder of the world” during his visit in 1949, and served as a stunning filming location for the James Bond movie “007 – Quantum of Solace”. As a “comune sparso” (a municipality without a single central town but made up of 18 small hamlets spread across the mountains), the people of Tremosine have historically been accustomed to “living uphill.” For centuries, people travelled on mules along steep paths and stone steps connecting the plateau with the villages by the lake. Today, a visit to Tremosine is an opportunity to admire Lake Garda from above, exploring scenic viewpoints, medieval lanes, nature trails, and glimpses of breathtaking panoramas.

THE TERRACE OF THRILLS

One of the main attractions of Tremosine sul Garda is its famous Terrazza del Brivido (not recommended for those afraid of heights!). This panoramic platform, suspended about 350 metres above Lake Garda, is located at Hotel Paradiso in the hamlet of Pieve. Accessible even to non-guests through the adjoining bar and restaurant, the terrace juts out directly over the void, offering a breathtaking a days, the view stretches beyond the villages of the Brescian shore to the Venetian side of the lake, reaching as far as Monte Baldo.

From the Terrace of Thrills, you can admire the lake’s ever-changing hues which shift from deep blue to emerald green depending on the wind, the tides, and the light. It is an especially enchanting spot at sunset, when the light reflects on the water, creating intense, striking colours, perfect for capturing unforgettable photos.
