This is the only way to describe Punta San Vigilio: the beautiful peninsula, owned by the Guarienti Counts of Brenzone, that closes off the northern side of the Gulf of Garda. Rich in art, history, and nature, over the centuries it has attracted illustrious visitors, including Goethe, Napoleon, Tsar Alexander II, Winston Churchill, and Prince Charles of England.

Perfect for a stroll
A splendid place for swimming in summer, Punta San Vigilio is also ideal for a spring walk. Park along the Gardesana road and follow the characteristic cypress-lined avenue that leads directly to Villa Guarienti. Designed by architect Michele Sanmicheli and inaugurated in 1540, this stunning Renaissance villa overlooks the entire lake, offering breathtaking views. Since the 18th century, it has been surrounded by extensive Italian-style grounds adorned with Roman statues and inscriptions in Latin and Italian. The villa was commissioned by the humanist Agostino Brenzoni, who intentionally filled the estate with literary and historical references. Legend has it that the ancient statues came from the Sack of Rome in 1527, carried out by the troops of Charles V of Habsburg. The small church nearby, which is definitely older than the villa itself, is equally charming. Inside, two plaques still commemorate Agostino Brenzoni and his wife. The path then descends to the left, emerging onto a small square in front of the Locanda San Vigilio. Since the 16th century, this inn has welcomed visitors from all over the world eager to explore this area. For those arriving by water, the quaint port provides a magical lakeside entrance. Above the entrance, an inscription reads: “Leave all business and the worries of the city behind.” A perfectly apt invitation, given the unique atmosphere in the area. The port itself is perhaps the most magical corner of Punta San Vigilio. Nestled between the Monte Baldo mountain range and the vast expanse of Lake Garda, it combines a sense of shelter with the grandeur of a breathtaking view.

The Bay of the sirens
The final surprise Punta San Vigilio offers visitors is the Bay of the Sirens. This small beach, tucked away among cypresses and olive trees, is a true hymn to the simplicity of nature, and it is perfect for a stop or a family picnic. The result is a privileged vantage point from which—weather permitting—you can enjoy an unforgettable sunset. It is undoubtedly the perfect place to leave “all business and the worries of the city behind,” as Goethe and Napoleon had once appreciated.

The outer walls of the Locanda San Vigilio

The inlet of the Bay of the Sirens

This magnificent peninsula houses a 16th-century villa, an inn, and a charming little port, all of which have captivated visitors over the centuries, from Goethe to Napoleon and Prince Charles of England Averitable corner of paradise on the shores of Lake Garda.
