The Milan Cortina Olympics will end on 22 February, but some of the infrastructure included in the Olympic works plan will have a much longer lifespan, remaining as a lasting legacy of the Games for the region. This is the case with the cycle-pedestrian path between Abbadia Lariana and Lecco, a project considered crucial for safety, sustainable mobility, and the enhancement of the surrounding landscape. More specifically, the project, technically overseen by Anas S.p.A., involves the construction of a cycle-pedestrian path approximately 3.2 km long, including walkways on decks and retaining walls, access points to the shores of Lake Como, and environmental improvement works in the surrounding area. The project has a budget of around \u20ac32 million and, once completed, this section of the cycle-pedestrian path will be integrated into the wider cycling network of the Province of Lecco. This will further enhance the natural heritage and promote active lifestyles, in line with the development objectives linked to the Olympic Games. The impact of this project will be significant: it will not only connect the two towns, but also allow residents, pedestrians, cyclists, and tourists to move safely, avoiding the traffic on a historic local road such as the SS36. <\/p>\n\n

On 15 December, at the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini was also present, emphasising that \u201cthe Abbadia cycle path is strategic\u201d as it \u201cwill link Milan to Switzerland\u201d. Construction began immediately after Christmas, with the inauguration scheduled for spring 2027. But even before it becomes operational, one thing is clear: this cycle-pedestrian path is one of the most important tangible legacy projects of the Milan Cortina Games. \n<\/p>\n\n
