A day of celebration that united the community in the spirit and values of sport. Key moments and the words of Alessio Zanoni, Mayor of Riva del Garda<\/em><\/p>\n\n

On 18 January, the Olympic flame arrived in Upper Garda for the 42nd stage of its journey to Milan Cortina 2026, passing for the first time in history through the municipalities of Riva del Garda, Arco, and Torbole on Lake Garda. Thousands of people lined the streets, squares, and lakefront to witness this exciting historic moment, which celebrated the universal values of sport, peace, and friendship. Departing from Riva del Garda, the Olympic torch was welcomed in Piazza Catena and then carried through the city along a route that passed through the heart of the historic centre before reaching the lakefront along Via Giancarlo Maroni. A deeply meaningful journey, marked by the presence of provincial and local authorities, including Maurizio Fugatti, President of the Autonomous Province of Trento, and Provincial Sports Councillor Mattia Gottardi. One of the most striking moments of the stage was the torch\u2019s lake crossing, from Circolo Vela Arco to Torbole, escorted by the vessels of the State Police, Fire Brigade, and Coast Guard, and accompanied by boats from the Garda Trentino sailing clubs, with the participation of their members, students, and sailing teams. A powerful image, made even more symbolic by the fact that Lake Garda marks the only point where all three 2026 Olympic regions meet: Trentino-Alto Adige\/South Tyrol, Veneto, and Lombardy. <\/p>\n\n

\u201cIt was a truly important and moving event, made possible by the careful work and dedication of so many people and the local associations,\u201d said Alessio Zanoni, Mayor of Riva del Garda, who also thanked Paola Mora, President of CONI Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, President of the Province, and Councillor Mattia Gottardi. \u201cI would like to thank everyone who chose to be here and to participate with enthusiasm,\u201d he added, \u201csharing a moment that warms the heart and recalls those universal values that, unfortunately, are often challenged today. A special thought goes to the youngest participants and the schools, whose remarkable involvement is the most inspiring and encouraging sign\u201d.<\/p>\n\n
