In the early 20th century, the poster began to spread throughout Italy as a modern form of “visual advertising”. The posters of the great northern lakes were then enriched with bright colours, idyllic scenes, and decorative typefaces influenced by the Liberty and Art Nouveau styles. The style evolved after World War II from the vibrant, ironic illustrations of the early century, adopting a more modern and symbolic style. Many illustrators of the time were also established artists, and it is no coincidence that some of these posters were true works of art — capable of telling stories and evoking a sense of nostalgia.
